Acting Scene Study for Film

 

Instructors Peter Valentino and Lissette Napoleoni help beginners & intermediate actors master scenes from films. In this class, students will work on two person scenes and will work on stage in every class. All scenes are shot and reviewed. Warm-up acting exercises will start the class to practice release of emotions, breathing and voice, etc. Students will also learn how to work with a camera.

No matter which technique an actor has been trained with, or if they have no experience at all, in this class we will focus on achieving natural and believable performances. We will also focus on researching a character, from the costume, to the psychology to the physicality that makes the character real to everyone watching.

We will occasionally play scenes from films for scene, script and character analysis.
Class is held every Thursday at 8:30pm.

Peter Valentino is the instructor of this scene study class and Lissette Napoleoni will be assisting. Peter was part of an improv group in New York City called the “Flying Monkeys”, which performed at the famous ‘Don’t Tell Mama’s” in Manhattan. They were an outgrowth of the Chicago City Limits Improv Group founded by members of Second City Improv. Peter also trained in Los Angeles with Donald Petrie (Director of Miss Congeniality, Grumpy Old Men, and many others), and was a voice trainer in NYC for over 15 years (singers welcome to the class). Peter and Lissette are both filmmakers with national music video and rockumentary TV credits. Lissette was trained in Telecommunication Arts (Film and TV production) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has worked as a videographer for castings in NYC for clients such as Calvin Klein, Wings, Elizabeth Arden, and Paramount Pictures, as well as working as a director for a promotional Miller Light campaign. Peter and Lissette are currently working on music videos and writing their first independent feature.
