I walked into 3^rd Street Revolution Art Gallery after being at the First Friday area near the Funk House, last Friday, July 4th. Lee, one of the owner’s of the Gallery, introduced me to a lovely and intelligent couple who were upset about the changes to the First Friday festivities. Thank You Letter to Las Vegas Mayor, Oscar Goodman

 

 

We sent this letter to Oscar Goodman after our meeting with him.

 

 

Dear Oscar Goodman,

We’d like to thank you for having given us a meeting with you and allowing
us to present you with our idea of having an Arts District that is more
integrated with the Strip. We see the possibilities of making the Arts
District more of a Las Vegas attraction.

As per your suggestion, we did look for more information on 18B,
and found more details about the founders and organization behind
First Friday. We are in contact with Cindy Funkhousen, Dick Geyer
and Jack and Carolyn Solomon. Hopefully, along with your efforts to
better downtown, as well as the efforts of others who care about the
Arts District, we are moving toward the beautification of this extremely
important area of Las Vegas. It will be a safer and more productive area
for Artists and for the other businesses sprouting here, as well as for
investors, tourists and locals.

Letter To Las Vegas Mayor, Oscar Goodman

This letter was sent to Mayor Goodman in mid-May, a few days before our meeting with him.

 

 

 

 

To Mayor Oscar Goodman,

Hello, it’s Peter Valentino, from the Neon Venus Art Theatre. I met you at the ribbon cutting for the Wolfson Lofts.

As I mentioned at the time, I am very interested in expanding the Arts District to include the Rainbow Center, the collection of storefronts at the southwest corner of South 3rd Street and Imperial. The Center is now home to three art galleries and to our theater for the performing arts. It faces a beautiful park, which divides 3rd and 4th Streets, making our building visible to the Strip as well. The Arts District officially begins one block to the north, at Colorado (see attached illustration). We feel we are in a perfect location near the Strip, and if we were included in the Arts District we could more easily participate in bringing increased attention to the area.  We have many ideas to dramatically improve our block so that people driving by on Las Vegas Blvd. will instantly recognize that the Downtown Arts District is within easy reach. Right now it’s tucked away one block from the Strip and tourists and locals cannot easily see it.  By placing large and artistic signage announcing the beginning of the Arts District on 4th St, where it separates from Las Vegas Boulevard, tourists will see the area as an attraction.
